This Chair is a powerful symbol of Chinese culture and was referred to as the "Grand Tutor Chair" or TaiShi Yi. According to historian Craig Clunas, such chairs could be converted into light, open sedan chairs in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries by simply installing tow poles along the side. It is made of elm wood and the chair's generous proportions are exaggerated by the semicircular armrests, and althought it appears overly spacious, it remains one of the most comfortable chairs ever designed in China. It should be perfect to decorate your living room.
